Mumbai: Virat ‘King’ Kohli surpassed ‘God of Cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar as batsman with most centuries in One-Day Internationals to bring the house down at the Wankhede Stadium and put India firmly on path to the World Cup final. The former Indian captain struck 117 for his 50th ODI ton, against New Zealand in the World Cup semifinal at Tendulkar’s home ground on Wednesday to power India to a gigantic 397 for 4, a mountain the Kiwis found too high to climb. Kohli’s emotions came to the fore as he brought up his coveted three-figure mark by turning fast bowler Lockie Ferguson for a brace in the 42nd over of the innings. The 35-year-old leapt high, punched the air, sank to his knees and pondered a bit before regaining composure to get back on his feet. He then took his helmet off, raised his arms and bowed to the legendary Tendulkar, who was up on his feet applauding Kohli’s feat, as the stadium erupted in raucous cheers. Kohli then blew kisses in the direction of his Bollywood actress wife Anushka Sharma, who reciprocated the gesture from the stands. Tendulkar was all praise for Kohli. “The first time I met you in the Indian dressing room, you were pranked by other teammates into touching my feet. I couldn’t stop laughing that day. But soon you touched my heart with your passion and skill. I am so happy that the young boy has grown into a ‘Virat’ player,” he wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account. “I could not be happier that an Indian broke my record, And to do it on the biggest stage -- in the World Cup semifinal -- and at my home ground is the icing on the cake,” he added. Kohli responded: “Again, the great man just congratulated me. It feels like a dream.”

Entertainment

The film starts in 2018 just a few days before Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed carried out the tragic Pulwama attack. To avenge the terror attack, the best team of aerial officers come together led by commanding officer Rakesh Jaisingh aka Rocky (Anil Kapoor) to form a unit called Air Dragons. The team includes Squadron Leader Minal Rathore aka Minni (Deepika Padukone) Squadron Leader Shamsher Pathania aka Patty (Hrithik Roshan), Squadron Leader Sartaj Singh aka Taj (Karan Singh Grover), Squadron Leader Basheer Khan aka Bash (Akshay Oberoi) among others. Fighter remains slick and smart and keeps the audience engaged and absorbed. From the burnished opening shots of a Sukhoi 30 upside down, inches above the tarmac, to the interesting dog fights between India and Pakistan fighter jets that show tactical situations requiring the use of individual basic fighter maneuvers to attack or evade the opponents and also the helicopter stunts, the aerial combat scenes are far more exciting and captivating. Also, to put it straight and simple, Fighter gains as much from its aerial action sequences as it does from the smoldering chemistry between Hrithik and Deepika, which sets the screen smoking and sizzling. Be it the dance number, facing the enemy’s bullets together, or engaging in some emotional scenes, their perfect consonance and well-matched tuning and rhythm make them one of the best on-screen couples in recent times. To top it off, the loving glances and longing look that they constantly throw at one another seem to spell much more than innocent romance. Their chemistry is palpable and keeps you rooting for more! On the other hand, Deepika looks drop-dead gorgeous and she takes her glam quotient a notch higher with Fighter. She simply makes you skip a beat and takes your breath away. Not only does she look sexy but she even kicks some butt. She is sultry but is also fiery, fearless and intelligent. After Pathaan and Fighter, it’s high time that the actress deserves her action film.

From war on black money to dealing with Pakistan:How has the Modi govt fared so far? The BJP-led NDA completed three years at the Centre. BJP came to power after a high-octane election campaign where every single aspect of the previous UPA govt was questioned. The UPA, after 10 years in power, was attacked for its so-called ‘jobless growth’, mocked over its Pakistan policy and attacked for several corruption scandals.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has said that India's high growth rate in recent years did not lead to a matching increase in formal sector jobs and labour market participation has declined. The IMF's report on its annual consultations with India released in Washington said that while India has lifted millions out of poverty as one of the world's fastest-growing economies, "recent labour market data suggests that unemployment is high while labour force participation has decreased."
